The term `Bandhani` has been derived from the word `Bandhan`or ?Bandhana? that literally means to tie up. Bits of fabric are pulled by the fingernails into many tiny bindings that are securely tied with thread at several points in the fabric. Based on the patterns the threads are secured and when untied, the fabric takes the form of an intricate and colorful design of dots of many sizes. Chandrakala, BavanBaug, and Shikari are some of the commonly known patterns in bandhani. |
